Response To Stimulus "Dreamscapes" - 10th January
Today we created a performance in response to the stimulus of "Dreamscapes". To do this, we used the piece of music "Where To Begin" by Philip Glass. To begin with, we brainstormed the emotions that dreams evoke within us, we then split into two different groups: those of us who wanted to perform the piece through movement and those who wanted to perform orally. As part of the group who wanted to perform orally, we began by finding a way to incoorperate the words that were evoked from our initial response to the stimulus. We finally landed on the idea of using these words in a range of dynamic ways, including whispering to ending with a more operatic crescendo to match the most dramatic part of the piece of music. We then performed this piece with my peers who had decided to create movement to the music instead, this ending up being very successful as our dramatic vocals matched the creepy dreamlike physicality that they all possessed.
One of the most exciting things about devising our own works is the freedom that this gives us as it allows us to have a large amount of freedom and add our own identity to our works. However, with this it also means that we are not given as much guidance with our pieces as we would usually which can make this difficult to initially come up with ideas.
