To begin with, we collectively agreed that we wanted to do a piece surrounding an ethical stimulus as we felt that we could generate some of the best ideas using this category. Although initially we had multiple different ideas we originally settled on the idea of whether or not it is okay for individuals to have differing opinions surrounding the topic of identity, particularly around gender. However, we found that not only did this shoehorn us into creating a very serious piece, but also the issue becomes very political which would make the piece difficult to create, so we then decided to slightly alter our message to how we can all use our individual beliefs and identities to work together and create great things. We have settled on this theme as we felt that it gave us quite a bit of scope to create a piece while still having a clear message that we will be able to portray throughout.

Due to much of our theme being about personal opinions on the topic, much of our research was primary with us holding discussions as a group where we talked about our own views on the topic and experiences of it. It was during this discussion that we really began steering away from talking about gender and going down the route of how as individuals we can work together with differing opinions and beliefs.
Initially we really liked the idea of making the piece comedic with us utilising stereotypical characters from a range of different backgrounds that we felt would make the piece much more relatable and would allow us to build on comedic elements much more easily. The story of the piece will then follow these characters as they have to work together to create their own performance and how they first struggle with this, but after a while they start to work together, utilising their own strengths that each of them bring to the table.
We decided to make the piece an episodic melodrama as we felt that this would be the best way to both convey both the message and the story. Due to the topic at hand still being one that can be serious depending on the context, we wanted to take from a comedic and melodramatic angle as we felt that not only will it give us more scope to work with but also be the most appealing to the audience.

We felt that our piece would be best suited to an audience of 15 - 19 years old due to the fact that they would be much more likely to recognise many of the stereotypes as being from the modern online landscape. This is also a demographic of people that we felt would benefit from this performance as young people we often feel like we have to follow the crowd and not branch out to be our own person due to social pressure and wanting to fit in and we felt that this performance would be good at conveying that it doesn't have to be the case and that you can be your own individual person with your own views and beliefs and still co-exist with others around you and work together to create great things.
